The Healthcare Worker, the Law and Ethics in the Era of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The healthcare landscape is undergoing a transformative phase with the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The rapid advancements in AI technology offer unprecedented opportunities for healthcare professionals to enhance diagnostic accuracy, treatment precision, and overall patient care. However, this paradigm shift also brings forth multifaceted challenges, ranging from ethical considerations to legal implications and the potential impact on professional roles.

This CPD program, organized by the Catholic Health Professionals' Guild (CATHPROG) in collaboration with Meet Health Needs Consult (MeHeNeeds) and generously supported by Continuous Educational Services (CES), aims to address these critical aspects. This two-day initiative is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and insights necessary to navigate the evolving intersection of AI, law, and ethics in the healthcare sector.

The program will feature seasoned professionals in the field, ensuring a rich learning experience through engaging discussions, practical examples, and interactive sessions. Participants will gain valuable insights into leveraging AI for improved patient care while navigating the complex legal and ethical landscape surrounding its implementation.

1. Analysis of AI in Medical Practice

  • i. Investigate the dynamic evolution of AI within medical and healthcare settings.
  • ii. Highlight the efficient utilization of AI to optimize overall health outcomes.

2. Recognition and Demonstration of AI Applications

      • i. Identify, deliberate, and demonstrate fundamental AI applications accessible to healthcare professionals.
      • ii. Conduct practical demonstrations, present examples, and showcase case scenarios illustrating AI's potential contributions to medical practice.

3. Assessment of Legal and Ethical Dimensions

      • i. Evaluate vulnerabilities, threats, and legal implications associated with the deployment of AI in healthcare.
      • ii. Engage in discussions regarding ethical considerations relevant to the application of AI by healthcare professionals.
