Overview

Course Description

Ramadan is the ninth lunar month of the Islamic calendar. Within this month, adult Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. During this period of fasting, modifications in gastric acid secretion are likely to increase the risk of various stomach acid-related gastrointestinal conditions; including but not limited to gastrointestinal complaints which may be exacerbated by prolonged fasting, and upper G.I. bleeding for predisposed individuals who are observing the fast, etc.

This training aims to equip healthcare professionals (HCP) such as General Practitioners, Family Physicians, Physician Specialists, and Pharmacists in the management of gastrointestinal (GI) conditions; particularly upper GI bleeds and Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) management.

What you will learn

By the end of this training, it is hoped that participants will:

1. become educated on the management of upper G.I bleeds.
2. become familiar with the diagnosis and management of GERD.
3. know the challenges and unmet needs of patients during periods of fasting and how to address them
4. become educated on the role of Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) treatment in managing GERD and GI bleeds
