Hypertensive disorders are strongly linked with an overactive Renin Angiotensin Aldosterone System (RAAS) and RAAS inhibitors (RAAS-I) like Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE-I) and Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) are routinely used in its management.
This CPD will help us understand and rule out the misconceptions of RAAS-I using relevant data and evaluate the evidence for ACE-I and ARBs in reducing all-cause mortality and Cardiovascular (CV) events in hypertensive patients.
At the end of the meeting, these are the learning objectives;
1. Explain the difference in pathophysiology of ACE-I and ARBs
2. Discuss the evidence for ACE-I and ARBs on endothelium function, fibrinolysis, and cardiac protection
3. Pharmacokinetic differences and clinical trial evidence to differentiate ACE-I and ARBs within their respective class
