This Boehringer Ingelheim – International Maritime Hospital cardiovascular update engagement is designed to review the ONTARGET TRIAL, which sought to determine whether Telmisartan was non-inferior to Ramipril, and whether a combination of the two drugs was superior to Ramipril alone as a treatment to prevent vascular events in high-risk patients who had cardiovascular disease or Diabetes Mellitus.
The course seeks to educate participants on the results of the trial and guideline recommendations on the role of Telmisartan in providing cardiovascular protection and prevention in Hypertensives with Added-Risk. Thus, outlining the unique benefits of Telmisartan in providing powerful BP reduction and Organ protection beyond just BP lowering.
At the end of the review, participants are expected to;
1. become familiar with the relationship between hypertension and its complications is a continuum
2. get clarity on the classification of office blood pressure and definitions of hypertension grade
3. understand the morning surge as a therapeutic target
4. understand why Telmisartan has superior efficacy in the early morning hours
