Dia-Ramadan

Many Muslims with diabetes have an optimistic view of Ramadan and insist on fasting as they perceive fasting to be favorable for their health and their well-being. The risks associated with fasting, including hypoglycemia due to decreased food intake during daylight hours, and hyperglycaemia due to a reduction in the doses of antidiabetic medications and altered diet, may increase the likelihood of acute complications.

However, the findings from a real-world study of fasting Muslims with Type 2 diabetes will serve as a practical tool to help HCPs support their approach to safely guide people with diabetes who wish to fast during the holy Month of Ramadan.
