The Ghana College of Pharmacists (GCPharm), in collaboration with the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), is pleased to invite Pharmacists to this transformative 2-day virtual CPD training event. This event, designed for pharmacists and other healthcare workers, will provide critical insights into current practices and innovative approaches in antimicrobial stewardship (AMS). It will cover Surgical Antimicrobial Prophylaxis, Infectious Disease Rounding, and Infection Prevention and Control, with an emphasis on addressing challenges posed by antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Sessions will be facilitated by highly experienced and knowledgeable resource persons, ensuring an engaging, interactive, and impactful learning experience.

Overview

Course Description

This 2-day virtual CPD training, organized by the Ghana College of Pharmacists (GCPharm) in collaboration with the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), offers Pharmacists an in-depth exploration of current practices in antimicrobial stewardship. With a focus on surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis, infectious disease rounding, and infection prevention and control, the event is designed to equip participants with actionable knowledge to combat antimicrobial resistance and improve patient outcomes. Featuring sessions led by highly experienced facilitators, participants will benefit from interactive Q&A opportunities and practical insights tailored to the realities of modern healthcare practice. What you will learn

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Understand the principles of surgical antibiotic prophylaxis (SAP), including indications, timing, selection, and dosing of antibiotics.

2. Apply evidence-based guidelines for SAP to reduce surgical site infections (SSIs) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

3. Optimize the management of resistant gram-negative infections using current strategies.

4. Comprehend the concept of AMS rounding, including documentation and its clinical relevance.

5. Demonstrate effective communication techniques during AMS-related ward rounds.

6. Develop strategies for implementing infection prevention measures, including aseptic techniques and environmental controls.

7. Integrate pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches into AMS programs for comprehensive care.

8. Evaluate the impact of AMS interventions on patient outcomes and antimicrobial use.
