Overview

Course Description

Sore throat is a typical symptom of acute upper respiratory tract infections that is often of viral etiology and self-limiting. Despite this fact, antibiotics are being prescribed for cases of sore throat. Misuse and overuse of antibiotics are the main drivers in the development of antibiotic resistance. The WHO has declared that antimicrobial resistance is one of the top ten global public health threats facing humanity.

This training event seeks to educate Medical Doctors on the rational use of antibiotics and best practices in sore throat management.

What you will learn

At the end of the training, participants will

1. Be able to list the presenting symptoms of sore throat
2. Explain the diagnosis of sore throat
3. Describe an evidence-based approach to treatment options
4. Describe the role that pharmacists and their team can play in advising and education patients and public about sore throat.
