
Professor Nick Ossei-Gerning is a distinguished Consultant Interventional Cardiologist with a career spanning several continents, focusing on both general and interventional cardiology. Currently, he works as a Locum Consultant Intervention Cardiologist at The Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran, where he performs two days a week in the Cardiac Cathlab, alongside a clinic session. He also maintains his practice in Ghana, visiting every three months to perform complex interventions, continuing his commitment to improving cardiology in Sub-Saharan Africa. Additionally, he continues to practice at Spire Cardiff as a general and interventional cardiologist.
Throughout his career, Professor Ossei-Gerning has held numerous leadership roles, including as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Gloucestershire Hospital Foundation NHS Trust, where he worked as both a general and interventional cardiologist while contributing to the teaching of junior doctors. He has also maintained strong ties to the Ghana Society of Cardiology and African PCR as a faculty member. His past role as the Medical Director of Euracare Advanced Diagnostic & Heart Centre in Accra involved the establishment of one of Ghana's leading centers for advanced diagnostic and heart care, which was aimed at transforming cardiology in the region. He has also been an active speaker and chairperson for numerous conferences across Africa.
Professor Ossei-Gerning’s medical training began at University College Hospital, London, followed by cardiology and interventional training at the Yorkshire Heart Centre in Leeds and an Interventional Fellowship at the University of Alberta in Canada. His work has been recognized internationally through numerous honors, including being appointed as the Professor of Practice at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David and as the Silas Dodu Chair of Cardiology at the University of Cape Coast School of Medical Sciences.
He is known for his extensive research contributions and has published widely in the field of cardiology, with particular expertise in vasculogenic erectile dysfunction (ED) and its connection to cardiovascular disease. He has been a significant figure in the management of ED through interventional cardiology, including the successful establishment of the first international congress on pudendal stenting for ED. Additionally, Professor Ossei-Gerning has worked with various academic institutions to explore the psychological effects of heart disease and erectile dysfunction, contributing to multi-disciplinary research in the field.
His leadership in the medical community includes being a key figure in the Sub-Saharan Africa Myocardial Infarction and Stroke Group, where he leads efforts to improve the management of MI and stroke in the region. He has also been a faculty member for British and European Cardiac Interventional Societies and the Co-Course Director of Africa Percutaneous Revascularisation. His work in interventional cardiology has taken him around the world, where he has contributed to numerous educational initiatives, including the British Cardiovascular Society and the Royal College of Physicians.
Professor Ossei-Gerning’s commitment to advancing cardiology, both in practice and through research and education, has earned him recognition as a leading authority in his field.
