Prof. Nana-Akyaa Yao is a consultant paediatric cardiologist specialised in Paediatric and Congenital Cardiology, and General Paediatrics and Neonatology. She works currently as a consultant at the National Cardiothoracic Centre and Department of Child Health in the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. She is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Child Health of the University of Cape Coast Medical School.

She is a fellow of the West African College of Physicians, The Royal College of Physicians, Ireland, and also a Fellow of the Paediatric Faculty of the Ghana College of Physicians.

With years of her life dedicated to self-development, she has excelled at all stages on her ascent to excellence having acquired various certifications to back her resume as one of the most decorated and distinct persons in her field. Among these include her Completion of her Specialist Training in Paediatric Cardiology from Joint Royal College of Physicians Training Board (London - U.K.), Postgraduate Certificate in Health Management from the Smurfit Graduate Business School, University College Dublin (Ireland), Advanced Paediatric Life Support, Advanced Life Support Group (U.K), amongst others.

Her large pool of experience gathered from years of practice in the field of Paediatric Cardiology in some of the best facilities - such as the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Ghana where she serves presently as a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist, and as a Specialist Registrar of Paediatric Cardiology at the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre, Glenfield Hospital (Leicester), Birmingham Children’s Hospital (Birmingham), and Bristol Congenital Heart Centre Bristol Royal Children's Hospital (Bristol) all in the UK, and also as a Research Registrar of Paediatric Cardiology in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin (Dublin. Ireland) - has made her a rich source of knowledge for instructing students who seek to pursue careers in her field.

She has taught many courses in Paediatric Cardiology, and for different highly reputed organisations such as the University of Cape Coast Medical School where she teaches presently, the University of Ghana Medical School, the Paediatric Society of Ghana, and is also a supervisor in the Mentor Program of the West Africa College of Physicians Paediatric Fellowship; Ghana College of Physicians Paediatric Membership. Some courses she has taught include Demystifying the Electrocardiogram (Paediatric Society of Ghana Annual Workshop AGSM 2020) and Masterclass in Paediatric Cardiology (International Postgraduate Organization for Knowledge Transfer Research & Teaching Excellent Students) in 2018, amongst others.
