Professor Mark Petrie, is a distinguished cardiologist and academician affiliated with the University of Glasgow, UK. Holding the position of Professor/Honorary Consultant at the Institute of Cardiovascular & Medical Sciences, University of Glasgow, he has made significant contributions to the field of cardiology throughout his illustrious career.

Professor Petrie's academic journey commenced as an undergraduate at Edinburgh University, UK, followed by specialized training in cardiology in Glasgow. With a background as a heart failure and interventional cardiologist, he transitioned to the University of Glasgow in 2016, where he currently serves as a Professor of Cardiology.

His extensive clinical and academic experience includes serving as the Director of the Scottish National Advanced Heart Failure Service from 2010 to 2014. Additionally, Professor Petrie has been actively involved in national committees, notably serving on the National Advisory Committee for Heart Disease from 2004 to 2018. His leadership was instrumental in the establishment and chairing of the Scottish Heart Failure Hub from 2014 to 2017.

Professor Petrie's research prowess is reflected in approximately 130 original manuscripts, published in esteemed journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, the European Heart Journal, JACC, and Circulation. He has played leadership roles in several pivotal trials, including STICH, REVIVED, REDUCE-LAP, PARADISE-MI, Dapa-HF, and IRONMAN.

Beyond his significant contributions to clinical research, Professor Petrie has left a lasting impact on cardiology guidelines. He was an author of the 2011 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) NSTEMI Guidelines, a reviewer of the 2016 ESC Heart Failure Guidelines, and the second author of the 2019 ESC position statement on diabetes and heart failure.

In addition to his research and clinical roles, Professor Petrie is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of cardiologists. He has supervised numerous individuals during their PhDs and MDs, contributing to the development of high-caliber professionals in the field.
