Prof. Jumaa Bwika is a Clinical Assistant Professor, Section Head, and Consultant Pulmonologist at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi. He is also a faculty member at the Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa. Prof. Bwika earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from the University of Nairobi in 1998. He subsequently achieved Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) from London in 2009. His advanced training in General Internal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine was completed in the UK, where he earned his MRCP in Respiratory Medicine in 2014 and received his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Internal & Respiratory Medicine in 2014.

Prof. Bwika is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) of Edinburgh, having been awarded this distinction in 2019. Additionally, he holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Birmingham, completed in 2019. His clinical expertise is extensive and includes flexible bronchoscopy, non-invasive ventilation, thoracic ultrasonography for pleural procedures, medical thoracoscopy, cardio-pulmonary exercise testing (CPEX), and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS).

Before returning to Kenya, Prof. Bwika served as a locum Consultant in Respiratory and Acute Medicine at the University Hospital of North Midlands, Stoke-on-Trent, for three years. His professional interests lie in clinical management pathways, new service design, service delivery, and service recovery. He is currently working on a thesis in New Service Development as part of his MBA program.

Prof. Bwika is an active member of several professional associations, including the Respiratory Society of Kenya, the Kenya Association of Physicians, the Pan African Thoracic Society, the British Thoracic Society, and the European Respiratory Society. He has multiple peer-reviewed publications and has presented his research at various national and international conferences.

In his role at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, Prof. Bwika continues to contribute significantly to the field of pulmonology through his clinical practice, teaching, and research. His dedication to advancing respiratory medicine and improving patient outcomes is reflected in his ongoing work and numerous professional accomplishments.
