Prof. Andrew Enemako Uloko is a distinguished Professor of Medicine and Endocrinology, currently serving at the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, Bayero University Kano, Nigeria. In addition to his academic role, he is an Honorary Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist, and the Pioneer Head of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano. He also holds the position of Head of the Department of Medicine at both Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and Bayero University Kano, and serves as an Adjunct Professor of Medicine and Endocrinology at the University of Abuja.

Prof. Uloko’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BM BCh) from the University of Jos, Nigeria, followed by extensive postgraduate training. He is a Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a Fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in London and the American College of Endocrinology (FACE). Additionally, he is a Fellow of the Medical College of Physicians (FMCP) from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. His qualifications are further enhanced by a postgraduate certificate from Harvard Medical School’s Training to Teach in Medicine Program.

With a robust professional career spanning over two decades, Prof. Uloko has risen through the academic ranks from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and now Professor of Medicine at Bayero University Kano. Concurrently, he has been an Honorary Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, contributing significantly to the healthcare sector in Nigeria. He has also been a Visiting Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.

Prof. Uloko’s research interests are broad and impactful, focusing on diabetes mellitus, diabetes foot, obesity and related disorders, thyroid and adrenal disorders, general endocrinology, and cardiovascular diseases in diabetes. He has co-investigated several important clinical trials and research projects, including studies on the genetics of metabolic syndrome, diabetes education, care and prevention, and diabetic emergencies. His current research efforts are directed towards diabetes epidemiology in Africa and cardiovascular risks in diabetes.

Throughout his career, Prof. Uloko has supervised numerous academic projects, dissertations, and theses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, contributing to the development of future medical professionals. He is actively involved in several administrative, academic, and professional roles, and has provided notable community services, including volunteer medical services during cholera and measles epidemics and free clinical services at local clinics.

Prof. Uloko is also a prominent figure in public health education, delivering numerous health talks and lectures across Nigeria. He has been a lead resource person at the Diabetes Association of Nigeria's annual pre-Ramadan lectures on diabetes and fasting since 2007 and has participated in various medical outreach programs. His dedication to medicine and community service has earned him several honors and recognitions, reflecting his significant contributions to the field of endocrinology and public health.
