Pharm/Mrs. Adela Ashie is a seasoned professional currently serving as the Principal Regulatory Officer and Head of the Vigilance Unit at the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in Ghana. In this capacity, she leads the National Pharmacovigilance Centre, overseeing critical regulatory activities related to the monitoring and safety evaluation of drugs and vaccines. Her extensive experience in pharmacovigilance, coupled with her leadership in vaccine safety, places her at the forefront of regulatory science in Ghana and across Africa.

She holds a Master of Public Health (International Health) degree from the University of Nottingham, UK, and a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. Pharm. Ashie has also undergone specialized training, including a fellowship under the GHPP VaccTrain Regulatory Capacity Building for Pharmacovigilance, where she honed her expertise in evaluating the safety of vaccines and biomedical therapeutics.

Pharm. Ashie began her professional career as an intern pharmacist at the Pharmacy Council and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital before transitioning into her role at Lexley Pharmacy Limited. In 2007, she joined the FDA, where she has steadily advanced, culminating in her current leadership role. Over the years, she has played pivotal roles in projects such as the coordination of active monitoring of COVID-19 vaccines and adverse events following immunization for vaccines like Yellow Fever. Her work extends to consultancy roles on projects funded by international organizations, including the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), focusing on building capacity for vaccine safety and effectiveness.

A prolific contributor to the field, Pharm. Ashie has published numerous research papers and articles, collaborating with both local and international researchers. Her contributions include studies on the Med Safety App for reporting adverse drug reactions, the effectiveness of mass media campaigns in reducing alcohol consumption, and the safety of herbal medicines. Her work has earned recognition in respected journals such as Digital Health, African Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, and Drug Safety.

With a career dedicated to ensuring the safety and efficacy of medical products, Pharm. Ashie continues to be a key figure in regulatory science, both in Ghana and internationally, contributing her expertise to the betterment of public health.
