Pharm. Vigil Edward Prah-Ashun is an accomplished professional with over 18 years of experience in the regulation of medicine, specializing in Marketing Surveillance, GMP inspections, and Port Control. Holding a Master of Pharmacy from the Higher Medical School, Sofia, Bulgaria, and a Leadership Certificate from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in Accra, Ghana, his academic qualifications reflect a commitment to excellence.

As a licensed Pharmacist and an active member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, Vigil commenced his career by undertaking his National service at the prestigious Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra. Subsequently, he contributed his expertise to a Community Pharmacy in Accra, laying the foundation for a distinguished career in pharmaceutical regulation.

In 2004, Vigil played a pivotal role as one of the pioneers in establishing the Takoradi Zonal Office of the Food and Drugs Board (now Authority). His dedication and proficiency were recognized in 2008 when he was promoted to the rank of Senior Regulatory Officer and transferred to head the Drug Control Unit at the Tema office.

In 2013, Vigil assumed leadership as the Head of the Ashanti Regional Office of the Food and Drugs Authority, overseeing operations in the second-largest city in Ghana. His leadership journey continued in 2017 when he was appointed the Head of the Drug Market Surveillance Department at the FDA head office, a position he currently holds.

Vigil's extensive experience includes active participation in projects related to substance and falsified medicine, collaborating with international organizations such as WHO, WAHO, USAID/USP, and Interpol. Notably, he currently serves as a member of the Ministerial Implementation Committee on Track and Trace in Ghana, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to advancing regulatory practices.

Throughout his career, Vigil Prah-Ashun has consistently demonstrated a dedication to public health, excellence in regulatory enforcement, and active participation in initiatives aimed at combating the proliferation of counterfeit medicines. His leadership roles, from regional offices to the national headquarters, underscore his proficiency, strategic acumen, and commitment to the highest standards of pharmaceutical regulation.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Vigil enjoys contributing to critical healthcare initiatives, reflecting his passion for ensuring the safety and efficacy of pharmaceutical products. Married with three children, he continues to balance his professional responsibilities with a commitment to family life.
