Mrs. De Carvalho holds a Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) in Nursing, as well as an IMM Marketing Certificate (Damelin) and International Marketing Certificate from the University of Singapore. She entered the pharmaceutical industry in 1981 as a Medical Representative in the private sector.
She progressed via hospital representative to product manager of an ethical range of products. She gained line management experience by taking on the task of acting national sales manager. She became product manager for the Lennon generic prescription range of more than 200 products and proceeded to product manager responsible for external marketing and PR in managed healthcare. After spending time in managed healthcare, she was appointed as Marketing Director in the pharmaceutical sector.
She has done several courses in Sales, Marketing, Selling Skills, Motivation, Counselling, as well as General Management and is well equipped to do a variety of tasks. She gained International Marketing experience by attending a marketing course at the National University of Singapore.
Since her departure from Pharmacare in 1999, Isabel started her own business, IMC Strategic Marketing. She has worked as a marketing consultant and qualified pharmaceutical assessor and moderator. Her activities include the creation of strategic direction and plans, writing of marketing plans, medical copy, editorials and translations for advertising agencies, PR companies and pharmaceutical companies.
With regard to training, she has focussed on the writing of training manuals, facilitation of pharmaceutical training of medical representatives, pharmacy personnel and clinic sisters. She facilitates and assesses the course Mastering Pharmaceutical Selling, as well as product training in all therapeutic categories at various pharmaceutical companies.
In Southern Africa, she supplies generic dossiers and APIs on behalf of Helm International (Germany). She also counselled multiple sclerosis patients on a freelance basis.
Isabel is an accredited coach, assessor and moderator.
She was also active in the media environment as the freelance editor for Front Shop & Edu-Pharm magazines aimed to educate and update pharmacists, pharmacist assistants & front shop assistants.
She is a person with a high energy level, a competitive drive, and high moral standards. She represented South Africa in two different sports and obtained provincial colours in gymnastics, athletics, and swimming.
