His expertise includes Demand Planning, Supply Chain Optimization, Value Stream Mapping, Validation, GxP, and Process Transformation. Fluent in multiple languages and possessing a strong foundation in Precision Mechanics, Lorenz's career journey reflects a deep commitment to servant leadership principles and a mission to enhance access to medicine, particularly in emerging markets.
Lorenz began his working life by developing one of the first medical laser therapy devices at the institute of laser technology in medicine, within the University of Ulm, Germany. His interest in medicine and passion to help provide solutions for patients drew him to the pharmaceutical industry as the site project engineer with Eli Lilly & Company in Germany and the UK, where over a period of 16 years, he has held various positions from introducing some of the first computer based electronic manufacturing execution systems as the site engineer, leading and managing warehouse & distribution operations and finally driving sales force data solutions in the field of CRM.
To expand his career in the field of supply chain around accessibility to medicine for infectious diseases such as malaria for low-income countries, he joined Novartis Pharma in Switzerland, where he has dedicated the past 13 years to drive excellence in supply chain and introduce process governance with the aim of eliminating waste and improving access for patients. To improving access to medicine for patients, especially those who cannot barely afford them, Lorenz worked with a few colleagues on a voluntary basis, to develop what is now known as the “Value Chain Academy Program”. Currently serving as the Process Governance Lead (Portfolio Strategy & Growth) in the Basel Metropolitan Area, his responsibilities centre around designing a framework for Business Process Excellence and process governance. With a focus on efficiency and simplification, he ensures all business processes are meticulously captured, documented, and trained using the Adonis tool. Lorenz collaborates with Business Process Excellence teams at Novartis to establish well-defined standards and seamlessly integrate them into the newly defined enterprise-wide process framework.
Throughout his career at Novartis, Lorenz has undertaken various roles of increasing responsibility, including Senior Program Manager at Learning Beyond Novartis, Head of the Process Governance Office in Corporate Affairs & Global Health, Head of Business Process Excellence and Standardization, and Global Business Process Owner for Demand Planning. His contributions have extended to his role as the Global Head of the Demand Management Centre and as a member of the Global Supply Chain Leadership Team, where he played a pivotal role in jointly driving the Digitalization strategy and roadmap for Supply Chain. Leveraging the SAP S/4 HANA ERP platform and other Industry 4.0 solutions, Lorenz has been at the forefront of technological innovation within the pharmaceutical supply chain.
In terms of education, Lorenz's journey began at Opoku Ware School in Ghana, where he pursued A-Levels in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. He furthered his education at Modelschule Obersberg, attaining Abitur. His passion for Precision Mechanics Engineering led him to Aalen University, where he earned a Diploma in the field.
