
Dr. Yaw Boateng Mensah is an Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Ghana Medical School and a Consultant Radiologist at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. He leads the Radiology Department at the medical school, serves on the University of Ghana and UGMS academic boards, and contributes as an external examiner to radiology programs in peer institutions. He has played a central role in residency training, curriculum development and logbook revisions for the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, and has coordinated radiology residency training across both the Ghana and West African colleges.
Clinically, Dr. Mensah practices advanced diagnostic imaging at Korle Bu, where he has previously held leadership of the Radiology Sub-BMC and supported service steering initiatives. He maintains active examiner duties with the West African College of Surgeons and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, and serves on the faculty boards of both colleges’ radiology faculties. His professional service includes secretariat roles in national and regional bodies and longstanding reviewer responsibilities for leading Ghanaian and West African medical journals.
His research portfolio spans population-level imaging workforce analyses, imaging protocol optimization, stroke imaging and outcomes, oncologic imaging, MRI utilization, and radiation-dose and risk assessment, with contributions in high-impact and specialty journals. Recent works include multicentre studies on stroke severity and fatality in West Africa, evaluations of CT findings in COVID-19, pediatric and oncologic imaging series, and applied studies in interventional radiology and artificial intelligence. He regularly presents at regional and international scientific meetings and contributes book chapters on neuroimaging.
Dr. Mensah is a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, holds an MPH, and maintains memberships with national, regional and international professional societies, including the Radiological Society of North America, the Association of Radiologists of West Africa and the European Society of Radiology. His teaching spans undergraduate clinical training and specialist instruction for radiology and allied residents, reflecting a sustained commitment to education, service delivery and scholarly work within Ghana and across the West African sub-region.
