Dr. Timo Falkenberg is postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Hygiene and Public Health, University Clinic Bonn, working in the GeoHealth Centre and the Sektion Global Health. He is an associated researcher at the Center for Development Research (ZEF), University Bonn, and adjunct faculty at the Indian Institute of Public Health - Gandhinagar (IIPH-G).
He is the Coordinator of the NRW Forschungskolleg ‘One Health and Urban Transformation” and a Scientific Coordinator of the German - West African Centre for Global Health and Pandemic Prevention (G-WAC). Additionally, he is teaching “Introduction to Public Health” in the interdisciplinary course at ZEF, “Introduction to Medical Geography” and “Ecologies of Health and Disease” in the MSc Geography, “Health Systems” and “Health Economics” at the medical faculty and various courses in the interdisciplinary program MSc Global Health and Hygiene Policy.
He holds a BSc (hon) Public Health from the University of East London and a MSc Development Administration and Planning from the University College London (UCL). He has completed the Doctoral Program ‘Bonn International Graduate School for Development Studies’ at ZEF and obtained a doctoral degree in Medical Geography from the Mathematical and Natural Science faculty of the University Bonn. His research interest lies with infectious diseases, One Health, Planetary Health, Urban Health, transmission pathways, the WASH nexus and wastewater irrigation.
He has conducted extensive research in India and is currently engaged in research activities in India, Ghana, Brazil and Germany.
