Dr. (Med) Jennifer Ama Makam is a medical officer currently assigned to the Haemovigilance and Clinical Services Unit at the Greater Accra Regional Blood Centre of the National Blood Service, Ghana. Her role involves ensuring safe clinical practices in blood donation and transfusion services. She manages patients presenting with polycythaemia, monitors donor reactions, and contributes to the reporting of adverse transfusion events. Her work supports the core mission of the National Blood Service in promoting safe blood donation and transfusion practices.

She is responsible for the clinical evaluation of blood donors, including the management of anaemic individuals and counselling of donors flagged during the screening process. Her duties extend to providing care for individuals accessing the services of the Blood Centre and ensuring adherence to clinical standards in donor management. Her focus on donor welfare and safety underpins her commitment to national efforts aimed at improving the quality of blood products and ensuring safe transfusion outcomes.

Prior to her current role, Dr. Makam worked as a medical officer at Al-Rahman Healthcare and completed her housemanship at both the 37 Military Hospital and Achimota Hospital. Across these institutions, she was involved in general medical practice, conducting clinical assessments, prescribing treatment, and managing in- and out-patients in various departments. Her broad clinical exposure has strengthened her capacity in primary care, patient communication, and collaborative medical practice.

Dr. Makam holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) as well as a Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences from the University of Ghana, Legon. She brings to her role a multidisciplinary perspective that reflects a sound clinical foundation and a commitment to continuous professional development.
