Dr. James Edward Mensah, a distinguished medical professional, currently holds the positions of Head of the Surgery Department and Head of the Urology Unit at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. Concurrently, he serves as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Ghana. Dr. Mensah's academic journey has culminated in his status as a Fellow of the Ghana College of Surgeons (FGCS) and a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS), with his foundational education being a degree in MBChB from the University of Ghana Medical School.

In addition to his roles in academia and clinical leadership, Dr. Mensah actively participates in various committee memberships, both at the University of Ghana and on a national and international scale. His involvement includes serving as Chairman of the Prostate Cancer working group, contributing to the preparation of the National Strategy for Cancer Control in Ghana. Notably, he holds key positions in professional societies, such as Vice President of the Ghana Association of Urological Surgeons and active membership in the Pan African Urological Association, International Society of Urology (SIU), and the European Urological Association.

Dr. Mensah's commitment extends beyond administrative roles, reflecting in his current research focus on the diagnosis and management of prostate cancer, the genetic basis for the aggressiveness of prostate cancer in Africans, and genitourinary reconstruction. His involvement in major research projects, including the establishment of the Prostate Brachytherapy Unit at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, demonstrates his dedication to advancing medical capabilities in Ghana.

With over 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals, several book chapters, and numerous abstracts, Dr. James Edward Mensah has significantly contributed to the body of knowledge in urology. His teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels attests to his commitment to educating the next generation of medical professionals. As Head of the Urology Unit, he plays a pivotal role in the Urology Fellowship Training Program, ensuring the development of urologic surgeons capable of performing complex surgeries in resource-limited settings.

Beyond his academic and clinical endeavors, Dr. Mensah has received recognition for his contributions, including the Republic of Ghana National Award as a Member of the Order of the Volta in 2016. His impact on cancer care in Ghana is also evident through his roles in national and international committees focused on cancer control strategies. Dr. James Edward Mensah stands as a beacon in the field of urology, actively shaping the landscape of medical education, research, and clinical practice in Ghana.
