Dr. David P. Nicolau PharmD, FCCP, FIDSA

He is the Director, Center for Anti- infective Research & Development, Hartford Hospital, Hartford, Connecticut. He is also the Coordinator for Research, Departments of Medicine,
Division of Infectious Diseases and Pharmacy.

His extensive research experience includes:

Phase I (Healthy Subject): Has been responsible for the development, implementation, and
management of studies conducted in a 24 bed clinical research centre. Studies primarily
designed to assess the pharmacokinetic and/or pharmacodynamic profiles. He has functioned as
principal investigator on both hospital and industry sponsored projects and principal on
Investigational New Drug (IND) applications with the FDA, United States.

Phase II – IV (Clinical): He has been responsible for the development, implementation, and management of clinical studies involving antimicrobials. His studies have included the assessment of drug disposition and effectiveness in a variety of patient populations. He has functioned as a principal investigator for industry sponsored INDs, as well as sponsor for IND studies.

He has used his analytical knowledge and skills including HPLC, microbiologic assays, and microbiology based techniques, within these broad research areas. He is responsible for the fiscal, administrative and scientific course of the Centre for Anti-Infective Research & Development in the United States.

Dr. Nicolau has been a Professor in various Schools and Colleges of Pharmacy including Butler University – Indianapolis (Indiana, US), Idaho State University, University of Connecticut, and Union University, USA.

He has over 790 publications and several other submitted publications. He is a Scientific Reviewer/Editorial Board Member/Editor of several Journals including: Annals of Pharmacotherapy, Antimicrobial Agents & Chemotherapy, Antibiotics, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Clinical Pharmacokinetics, Clinical Therapeutics, Critical Care Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Surgical Infections, Laboratory Animal Science, and many more.

He is a Member of several Professional Associations, Organizations and Institutions including: American Society of Hospital Pharmacists, ASHP Infectious Diseases Special Practice Group, American Society for Microbiology, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, New England College of Clinical Pharmacy, Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists, Connecticut Infectious Diseases Society, Infectious Diseases Society of America, International Society for Anti-Infective Pharmacology, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI).
