Dr. Daniel M. Yumbya, EBS MD, MBA, CertEd, Ph.D (Candidate)

Dr. Daniel M. Yumbya is the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council, a position that he has held since October 2010. He is responsible for strategic leadership, management and overseeing the daily operations of the Council.

He is currently pursuing PhD, Management Sciences, research area- Health Workforce Regulation in private and public practice in Kenya and holds Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa) from Mount Kenya University, Master’s Degree in Business Administration (International) MBA (I), (Edith Cowan University, Australia, 2011).), Certificate in Executive Education on Leading High Performing Health Organizations (Strathmore Business School, Strathmore University, Nairobi, 2012), Certificate in Evaluation and Accreditation of International University Medical and Dental Education, (Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy, Russia 2009), Strategic Leadership Certificate under Intelligent Africa Marketing and Training – South Africa,(August 2008), Strategic Leadership Certificate (Kenya School of Law, Nairobi, February 2009) and Strategic and Operational Planning for Successful Public Service Budgeting Certificate under Intelligent Africa Marketing and Training, Ivory Coast (April, 2009). He is a certified trainer with Interpol on Pharmaceutical Crime, (2015) among others qualifications.

He is a seasoned health regulator with a passion to ensure quality health care and improved patient safety. He has served as a Consultant with the IFC/World Bank on Kenya Patients Safety Impact Evaluation (KePSIE) Project between 2016 and 2017. He has been instrumental in the development and dissemination of various policy documents nationally, at East Africa Community (EAC) Region and in the Africa continent under Association of Medical Councils of Africa (AMCOA).

He is the current Chair of International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA) Membership Committee since 2017, and a Director, Board of Management representing the Africa Continent. He has also been the Chair of the Finance Committee of AMCOA since 2012. During his tenure as a Chair for the Membership Committee representing the Africa continent, IAMRA Membership, collaboration and participation in AMCOA Conferences and Capacity Building workshops has increased considerably.

On 12th December, 2018 and 12th December, 2021, Dr. Yumbya was awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (M.B.S.) and Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (E.B.S) respectively for the role that he has continuously played in Healthcare Regulation in local, Regional and International arena.
