Complications of Diabetes mellitus: Diagnosis and Management

Summary

The 5th Annual General Scientific Meeting (AGSM) of the Diabetes Endocrine and Metabolic Society of Ghana (DEMSoG) is a significant event that brings together healthcare practitioners and experts to delve into the multifaceted realm of diabetes mellitus complications. This event consists of two distinct parts: the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the Scientific Meeting.

The AGM is the formal component of the event, encompassing essential administrative tasks. It commences with a warm welcome address, followed by the meticulous reading of minutes from the previous AGM. Additionally, the AGM includes the presentation of annual and financial statements, a pivotal aspect for transparency and accountability. A crucial part of this segment is the election of executives who will serve a two-year term, an integral process for the society's leadership.

The Scientific Meeting, on the other hand, is the core of the event. It features presentations by three distinguished experts, with each speaker allotted approximately 30 minutes to delve deep into their respective areas of expertise regarding diabetes mellitus complications. These presentations promise to be informative, insightful, and a valuable source of knowledge. Interspersed within these expert sessions, we have short presentations by sponsoring pharmaceutical companies, each lasting 15 minutes. These brief interludes offer an opportunity for the industry to showcase its contributions to the field.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Educating Healthcare Practitioners (HCPs) about the Spectrum of Complications of Diabetes Mellitus: The primary objective of the 5th AGSM is to provide a platform for healthcare practitioners to gain comprehensive insights into the diverse spectrum of complications associated with diabetes mellitus. By doing so, it empowers them with the knowledge required to address these complications effectively in their practice.
  2. Updating Strategies for Diagnosing Complications of Diabetes: The second objective is to offer an update on the latest and most effective strategies for diagnosing complications related to diabetes. As the medical field continually evolves, this meeting aims to keep HCPs informed about cutting-edge diagnostic techniques and tools that can enhance early detection and intervention.
  3. Highlighting Current Evidence on Prevention and Management: Last but not least, the AGSM aims to provide attendees with the most current evidence on the prevention and management of diabetes mellitus complications. In a rapidly advancing field, staying up-to-date with the latest research and best practices is paramount for improving patient care and outcomes.

The 5th AGSM serves as a vital educational and networking opportunity for professionals involved in diabetes care, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the quality of care and management of this prevalent and impactful medical condition. It brings together academia, industry, and the medical community to collectively address the challenges and opportunities presented by diabetes mellitus and its complications.
