Overview

Course Description

The incidence of stroke in Africa is among the highest in the world. Every 3 seconds, 1 person suffers a stroke. The World Health Organization recommends that we reduce our salt intake to LESS THAN 5 grams per day. This is quite difficult to do here in Ghana because of our high salt intake.

Diuretics are very relevant for black populations since this class of medicines can effectively control high blood pressure and with guidelines recommending a thiazidelike diuretic as the drug of choice, we will learn how to “optimize the management of the Hypertensive patient" with particular focus on diuretics.

What you will learn

At the end of this course, participants should be able to
I. Understand the place of diuretics
II. Understand guideline recommendations
III. Know the individual needs of your patients and categorize those that require a diuretic.
IV. Understand the rationale in choosing the best diuretic for your patient.
