Dr. Mrs. Barbara Ossei Sekyere is a Palliative Care Paediatrician with extensive experience in child health, paediatric oncology, and children’s palliative care. She is currently the Head of the Paediatric Palliative Care Unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where she leads a multidisciplinary team providing care for children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions. She is also involved in the training of medical students, house officers, and residents, and has facilitated several workshops and webinars on paediatric palliative care. In addition, she serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in Child Health at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Dr. Sekyere has contributed to several research and quality improvement projects in paediatric health and palliative care, including studies on procedural pain management, asthma control in children, paediatric palliative care accessibility, and global comfort improvement initiatives. She has also played active roles in organizing professional conferences, update courses, and scientific meetings focused on child health and paediatric practice in Ghana.
Her academic and professional qualifications include FGCPS, MGCPS, PG Dip Palliative Medicine (Paediatrics), PGPN, MSc Strategic Management and Leadership, MB ChB, and BSc Human Biology. She is a member of several professional bodies, including the Ghana Medical Association, Paediatric Society of Ghana, International Society of Paediatric Oncology, International Children’s Palliative Care Network, and the African Palliative Care Association.
