Dr. Francis Agyekum is a lecturer with the University of Ghana Medical School, College of Health Sciences, Legon. He is also a Consultant Cardiologist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Agyekum graduated from the University of Ghana Medical School in 2004 and continued to do his post-graduate studies, after two years’ service in the district with the Ghana Health Service.
He became a member of the Ghana College of Physicians in 2010 in Internal Medicine. He was awarded Fellowship in Internal Medicine and Cardiology by the West African College of Physicians in 2016. Dr. Agyekum also had a one-year post-graduate certificate in Interventional Cardiology from the Guangdong Cardiovascular Institute, China in 2015. He has also obtained certificates in leadership training in health from Washington University in 2020, and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in 2020. He is currently pursuing 1-year post-graduate Diploma in Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine with the University of South Wales, United Kingdom.
Dr. Agyekum has practiced at all levels of health care in Ghana in various capacities as Medical Officer, Physician Specialist, Senior Specialist, and Cardiologist. He has been part of a number of research publications. His main interest areas are Preventive cardiology, heart failure, non-invasive cardiovascular testing, and coronary interventions.
Dr. Agyekum is the General Secretary of the Ghanaian Society of Cardiology and a member of the International Society of Hypertension, and the European Society of Cardiology.
