Dr. Eugenia Vicky Naa Kwarley Asare is a Senior Specialist Haematologist at the Ghana Institute of Clinical Genetics and the Department of Haematology at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Ghana Medical School in 2007 and completed her membership training in Laboratory Medicine (Haematology) at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital under the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) in 2014. Furthermore, she completed her fellowship training in Laboratory Medicine (Haematology) at KBTH under the GCPS in 2021.

Dr. Asare's primary responsibilities include managing both benign and malignant hematological diseases through a combination of clinical and laboratory work. Her main area of interest and expertise lies in Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and other haemoglobinopathies. She currently serves as the primary haematologist at the multidisciplinary SCD obstetrics clinic at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Asare is dedicated to providing comprehensive services to her patients and advancing medical knowledge through research and education. She recognizes the need for progress in the management of both benign and malignant haematology, as well as the development of comprehensive life-course care in Africa.

Notably, Dr. Asare has been actively involved in international conferences and presentations. She moderated a plenary session at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting and Exposition in 2017 and chaired an education session on the management of obstetric complications in women with SCD in high- and low-income countries at ASH in December 2022.

Dr. Asare's commitment to bridging the gap between evidence and practice, along with her advocacy for task-shifting, reflects her enthusiasm for her role on the project's Steering Committee.

Some of her significant international lectureships and oral presentations include discussions on acute pain episodes, acute chest syndrome, and pulmonary thromboembolism in pregnancy, as well as the prospective implementation of a multi-disciplinary obstetric team to reduce mortality rates in pregnant women with SCD in Ghana.

Her list of awards and recognition includes achievements from the American Society of Hematology (ASH), including abstract achievement awards, Clinical Research Training Institute participation, a Young Investigator award by the American Journal of Hematology and Wiley, and the ASH Global Research Award.

Dr. Asare has also contributed to peer-reviewed articles in reputable international journals.
