Dr. Cecilia Smith BSc, MPhil, PhD

Medical Laboratory Scientist & Lecturer

Department of Medical Laboratory Science, University of Health and Allied Sciences.

Dr. Cecilia Smith is a Medical Laboratory Scientist (cytotechnologist) and a Lecturer at the University of Health & Allied Sciences Ho. She holds a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology of infectious Diseases from the University of Ghana, a Master of Philosophy degree in Pathology from School of Research and Graduate Studies College of Health Science, University of Ghana Medical School. Part of her PhD training was done in the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Currently, she is a lecturer at the University of Health and Allied Sciences where she teaches Cytototechnology, Histotechnology and General pathology. She is also an External examiner at the School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences. She is the training coordinator for Cellular pathology at the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (WAPCMLS), a member of the accreditation committee of the Ghana Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (GPCMLS), a member of Research and Scientific Committee of Ghana Association of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS)

Her research area includes:
• Immuno-oncology (cancer pathogenesis)
• Cancer diagnosis
• Respiratory diseases (asthma)
• Neglected Tropical diseases (Schistosomiasis)

She has seven (7) publications in peer review journals.

Her teaching experience includes:
• General pathology, Cytology and Histopathology - lecture, practical and tutorial (Department of Medical Laboratory, School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences, 2015- date)
• Cytology and histopathology –practical and tutorial (Final clinical year and Residents, University of Ghana Medical School, 2007-2015)
• Cytology and histopathology - practical and tutorial (School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences, 2007-2015)
