Dr. Alfred BSc, MB ChB, FWACP, Fellow-GMC, FGCP, MPH, is an accomplished Consultant Physician Specialist and Cardiologist, currently holding the position of Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Medical School, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana. With a wealth of experience, he has served as the Head of Cardiology at both the University of Ghana Medical School and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Dr. Alfred Doku is recognized as a Fellow of the German Cardiac Society (FESC eligible/Member ESC) and the West African College of Physicians.

In his role as the Immediate Past President of the Ghanaian Society of Cardiology, Dr. Alfred Doku has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to advancing cardiovascular health. As the Project Director of the Ghana Heart Initiative, he oversees initiatives aimed at improving the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases in Ghana and across Africa.

Dr. Alfred Doku's commitment to emergency care is evident in his role as the Senior Medical Advisor for the African Air Ambulance Foundation/Emergency Helicopter Service International. His passion for empowering individuals on the burden, prevention, and management practices of cardiovascular diseases is reflected in his dynamic and self-motivated approach.

Throughout his career, Dr. Alfred Doku has actively contributed to the field of cardiology, not only in clinical settings but also in public health. He firmly believes in the future of healthcare lying in the private sector, emphasizing accountability, ethics, efficiency, and effectiveness. This belief led to the establishment of Medfocus International and the African Air Ambulance Foundation, aiming to bridge the gap between access to emergency services and clinical care.

Dr. Alfred Doku has been recognized for his outstanding contributions, earning various awards such as Best Part 1 Candidate for 2005 by the West African College of Physicians and Meritorious Service to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in 2001. He is a Fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and a member of prestigious organizations like the European Society of Cardiology.

In his extensive contribution to science, Dr. Alfred Doku has played a pivotal role in activities to control cardiovascular diseases in Ghana. Serving as the Secretary of the Ghana Society of Hypertension and Cardiology, he has organized World Heart Day celebrations and educational workshops, making significant strides in the prevention, detection, and management of cardiovascular diseases. As the President-elect of the Ghanaian Cardiology Society, Dr. Alfred Doku continues to lead impactful initiatives, including the development of the first CVD guideline for Ghana, the Akomacare App, and a CVD training manual/facilitators guide.
